Painting the town

During two weeks an international team of creative and socially active young people will paint the fences of Nerehta in socially significant or merely aesthetic, pleasing the eye, motives in different styles (graffiti, glamour, abstract art, impressionism, surrealism, futurism, nerehtizm or any other known isms).

Fences between the plots for a long time have served the same purpose as the border between the countries – to divide, then to govern (divide et impera). By means of fences people divided their responsibility, guarded their territory, seeking to protect the private property. But after centuries have passed the serious need for protection of houses and gardens have started to decline, and then the barriers began to change – from a traditional picket fence to light and beautiful design fences, hedges, low and lath fences. Powerful gates were replaced by elegant ones, and what served to scare passers-by then became a mean for their aesthetic attraction. Look, they say, what a beauty we have in front of our house.

To continue (and in many respects even to restore) this glorious tradition of creating beauty out of everyday things, we invite you to Nerehta to join the international team of young and creative volunteers, that will present new colors to the town and bring new wind of inspiration to its citizens.
